James and the Giant Peach
Oregon State University
As a child, I was captivated by pop-up books and the magical worlds they brought to life. This fascination has remained with me into adulthood, inspiring my artistic endeavors. For James and the Giant Peach, I envisioned a life-size pop-up book where performers would interact with set pieces and puppets to bring the story’s vivid moments to life. Actors and puppeteers worked collaboratively to create key scenes, such as the crashing ocean waves and the seagulls lifting the Peach into the sky. In addition to the original narrative, David Wood’s adaptation incorporates poems spoken by the actors. To enhance these moments, I collaborated with a composer to create musical accompaniment that complemented the poetry and brought a dynamic, rhythmic dimension to the production. Additionally, I choreographed each song, ensuring the musical elements seamlessly integrated with the story and visual design, enriching the overall theatrical experience.
