Acting
Acting fuels my overall creative process that informs my playwriting, directing, and research by offering insights into the intricacies of character development, relationship building, and dramatic conflict. As both an artist and a scholar, I view acting as a vital tool for fostering empathy, challenging societal norms, and creating transformative spaces where diverse stories can be seen, heard, and felt. My acting process is a layered synthesis of Michael Chekhov's Acting Technique, and Uta Hagen’s emphasis on substitution and sense memory, and leans on Viewpoints and improvisation, fostering collaboration and responsiveness with the dynamics of a group artists. Commedia dell’arte techniques further enrich my approach, encouraging the exploration of rhythm, movement, and spatial awareness in shaping a character’s physical presence. Additionally, my voice and speech work, honed at the California Canadian Voice Intensive and influenced by Linklater, allows me to craft distinct vocal identities that align with each character’s social and emotional context. By layering these techniques, I create nuanced performances that resonate with intellectual depth, physical precision, and emotional authenticity.
